July 7, 2011 by arvindk 2 Comments

When Windows Phone was launched last year then it supported only 5 display languages: English(US and UK), French, German, Italian and Spanish. And in the upcoming Windows Phone that is our Mango 17 new languages are being added: Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmål), Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Swedish.

Zune software for Mango will also be available in the same set of language. All these languages will not be in phone by default but the exact display option will be as per your handset manufacturer and mobile operator.

In order to display these languages new fonts were needed so 4 new and beautiful fonts for the East Asian Language are added:

Language Font Style
Simplified Chinese DengXian regular, bold
Traditional Chinese Microsoft MHei regular, bold
Japanese Yu Gothic regular, bold
Korean Microsoft NeoGothic regular, bold

Segoe UI Symbol is now included in Mango in addition to Indian Rupee currnecy sign, Emoticons (Emoji) and other userful symbols.

Languages support is expanded to the touch even where we have 20 new keyboard options: Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Swedish, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Among these languages support text prediction which are in italics.
